Columba Catholic Primary School Acknowledges the Bunurong Peoples’ of the Kulin Nation as Traditional Owners and Custodians and pay respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging.
Columba acknowledges the Bunurong’s continuing relationship to the land and waterways and respects that their connection and spiritual identity are maintained through ancient ceremonies, songlines, dance, art, and living culture.
We pay tribute to the invaluable contributions of the Bunurong and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Elders who have guided and continue to guide our work.
Principal Message 1st December 2023
- Current educational philosophies of the school and education
- Social, emotional and academic needs of each child
- A balance of social, emotional and academics in each grade cohort.
Each year teachers have conversations with children asking them about students who have a positive impact on their learning. We do not group our children by asking them to name their best friend/s as best friends does not always equate to best learning.
It is important that there is a collective understanding by both parents and children that being in the same class with their ‘best friends’ or social acquaintances outside of school is never a given.
Teachers always use their professional judgement on what they see each day within the cohort and, more importantly, the positive or negative impacts that friendships can have on an individual students learning.
As we approach the festive season, I am again thrilled to share a heartwarming opportunity for our school community to make a difference. This year, we are participating in the "St. Vincent de Paul Christmas in a Shoebox" campaign again, aiming to bring joy to those less fortunate.
I kindly ask you to consider donating generously to this meaningful cause. Your support will not only brighten someone's holiday but also teach our students the importance of compassion and giving.
As part of our Catholic Social Teaching, we encourage all students to care for everyone and support those who may need help in any way.
I am sure the Columba Community will once again come together to make this holiday season a truly special and impactful one for those in need.

Christmas Cheer For Families
By Roman Kulkewycz
A new initiative by the Bunyip Community Op Shop to brighten Christmas for needy district families has seen the distribution of over 40 grocery vouchers each valued at $100. School Principals from Nar Nar Goon to Longwarry were invited to submit the number of vouchers required. To maintain dignity and anonymity, only the Principals were aware of the recipient families.
Bunyip Community Op Shop President, Mr.Tony Arrigo said that at a recent committee meeting it was agreed unanimously to trial this program. “ We wanted to give local needy families some extra cheer at Christmas this year and the best way we thought was to do it through the school Principals. We delivered the vouchers personally and were warmly received by each Principal.”
